Substation & Power Automation Solutions

We support industries and utilities in improving electrical assets/equipment reliability and efficiency and reduce negative environmental impact and operating costs. For more than a decade, we have been delivering solutions in Generation, Transmission, and Distribution sectors for brownfield and Greenfield projects.

RTU-SCADA bases substation automation majorly comprises of below components:

  1. Field devices/ IEDs/CBs: This include measurement devices, circuit breakers and relays and all other Intelligent devices or substation components distributed throughout the substation from where required data such as voltage, current and temperatures, equipment status etc are collected and gathered to RTU to get a comprehensive details of the substation operational state.
  2. RTU: Remote Terminal Unit is a local control unit which gathers real time data (Analog and Digital) from the substation via IEDs/Meters/Station equipment and then monitor all the physical parameters and status of the system and provide intelligence for control and data acquisition.
Communication Network: The communication between the RTU and SCADA is facilitated by various protocols such as Modbus or IEC 61850etc. Other communication pathways such as wired connection (Ethernet or serial communication) and wireless communication are also used for effective data transmission
  3. SCADA: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition is the central control for that communicate with RTU, acquire data and communicate with operators/engineers to control and monitor the whole substation. They can also provide graphical representation to display real time information or status of the substation, manage alarms and provide report or documentation. SCADA system implement control logic to perform automated tasks such as automatic switching, load management etc for system optimization.

The Intelligent Electronic Devices are devices such as protection relays, meters and other smart devices with advanced processing abilities and communication interfaces used for the monitoring, control and automation of the substation equipment. These are integrated into E-SCADA by:

  1. Determining the communication protocols like IEC 61850, Modbus etc. supported by both the IEDs and E-SCADA system
  2. Setting up other relevant communication pathways like ethernet or serial connection for proper network design.
  3. Setting up communication channels, data points and type of information to be exchanged with SCADA system and then mapping this data into SCADA
  4. Testing and verifying the communication between the IEDs and SCADA system
