End-User

Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, India

Scope

Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply, and Commissioning of String Combiner boxes, Weather Station, Data Acquisition Panels, and SCADA system for 3 MWp ground mounter solar PV Plant.

Background

In line with Govt of India’s initiative to achieve 100 GW solar power, the Indian Navy was setting up a 3 MW solar PV plant at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kannur. Through competitive bidding, CONSYST was awarded the SCADA scope of works that monitors and regulates the 3 MWp grid-tie solar power plant. The requirement is to provide an online monitoring system that provides information on the instantaneous output energy and cumulative energy of the inverters, meters, breakers, and weather stations.

System Description

The integrated SCADA deployed was communicating with all inverters, PCUs, String Combiner Boxes, weather stations, meters, and breakers of the 3 MWp solar power plant. The SCADA provided information on instantaneous energy and cumulative energy for each of the inverters. The Data Acquisition system deployed was capable of measuring and logging of following parameters:

  • Ambient Air Temperature
  • Control Room Temperature
  • Module Temperature
  • Wind Speed Temperature
  • Solar Irradiation
  • Inverter Output
  • DC Output
  • AC & DC Power of Inverter
  • The energy delivered to the Grid
  • System Frequency
  • The voltage of the HT and LT side
  • Current and Voltage of each Sub Array
  • Power at 11 kV terminal

The SCADA system stores daily, monthly, and yearly energy generation. The system will give the Performance Ratio (PR) of the plant. All the events and outages recorded are stored with date

and time stamps. The proposed SCADA can control and monitor the entire power plant according to IEC 61850 communication Protocol.

The system also includes String Combiner Boxes with a monitoring feature. A 24-channel String Monitoring unit helps the customer to monitor string level current and voltage. These String Monitoring boxes are integrated into the SCADA system over Modbus RTU protocol.

Result

· All stored data and trends will be stored and seen in the form of graphs and tabular form by SCADA, which will store daily, monthly, and annual energy produced by the plant.

· The system provides complete visibility of the 3 MWp solar PV Plant by monitoring Net meters, LT Meters, Inverters, String Monitoring boxes, Weather Stations, ACB, VCB, Transformers, etc.
